HOUSTON, TX - The day after members of the Houston Fire Department booted a contract (that would have given them a four percent raise in exchange for swallowing limitations on time-off), the City Council is trying to put-out some fires on their own.
It’s all about the budget. Some typical last-minute wrangling has brought forth new amendments and the council session is seeming to just drag on.
For what it’s worth, the mayor’s $5.2 billion proposal includes highlights like single stream recycling, $10 million toward pot holes (maybe they’re sick of the segment), extra staff at BARC and more than a few bucks toward rising pension costs, contractual raises and paying down debt.
