Hillary Clinton accused of using “Pay to Play” scheme with Clinton Foundation

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Did Hillary Clinton put a price-tag on doing business with the U.S. State Department?

Some reports are raising that very question and claiming Hillary was running a “Pay to Play” scheme through the Clinton Foundation when she was Secretary of State.

“She sold favors and access in exchange for cash,” Republican Nominee Donald Trump told supporters at a rally in Austin.

“We’re going to disband the Clinton Foundation if Hillary is elected president, but it’s okay if she was secretary of state?” Libertarian Nominee Gary Johnson said.

One report claims that at least 85 of 154 people she met with made contributions or commitments to the Clinton Foundation while she was secretary of state.

Those 85 donors combined reportedly gave about $156 Million!

Clinton is trying to brush off the controversy.

“Donald Trump gave a $100,000 to the Foundation,” Clinton Campaign Chief Strategist Joel Benenson said. “It’s a big donation. Was he paying for play?”

So far, the issues raised with the Foundation haven’t hurt Clinton in the polls.

But it could be a whole new ballgame if a special prosecutor is assigned to investigate.

The “Saturday Night Live” star’s website JustLeslie.com was shutdown Wednesday after it was hacked and personal photos and some really racially-charged comments against Jones were released.

Jones, her manager and her lawyer have yet to release a comment.

After word came out about the apparent hack, many celebrities showed their support of Jones on social media.

(CNN) — Ryan Lochte might be ditching his speedo for a pair of dancing shoes.

The Olympian is “in talks” to join season 23 of “Dancing With The Stars,” a source familiar with the situation confirmed to CNN. “It’s almost definitely happening,” said the source.

This would be one way to distract from all the negative publicity the 32-year-old has received for admitting he “over-exaggerated” claims that he and fellow swimmers were robbed at gunpoint in Rio.

Lochte would be joining Amber Rose, JoJo Fletcher and Jake T. Austin on the next season of the ABC competition show.

As a six-time Olympic gold medalist, Lochte might just have the moves to win the coveted mirror ball trophy.

The entire cast will be revealed on “Good Morning America” on August 30 and the new season premieres September 12.

HOUSTON — You've probably heard of Interfaith Ministries' Meals on Wheels for Greater Houston program that delivers meals to home-bound seniors.

But did you ever wonder how the pet companions of those seniors are fed? Well, that's where aniMeals comes in.

In this month's Houston PetTalk we explore the AniMeals on Wheels program that takes pet food to low income people — so they can feed their pets.

"Those clients struggle with making their own meals," said Hannah Weier, manager of the Volunteer Services Department at Interfaith Ministries.

"Purchasing their pet's food or even lifting up a bag of 20 pound dog food is a challenge for seniors who live at home alone," Weier said.

Some seniors will starve themselves to feed their beloved pets and this program hopes to change that.

MILLINOCKET, Maine — Tired of tech? Looking for that getaway that lets you get back to nature? You want hiking, kayaking, and going where the wild things go? Have we got a spot for you! The Katahdin Woods and Waters in northern Maine.

Wednesday, President Obama declared it a national monument. The 87,500 acre area, which was donated by the founder of Burt's Bees, will now be taken care of by the National Park Service. It joins national treasures like the Redwood forest in California, Mount Rushmore in South Dakota, and, of course, the Grand Canyon in Arizona.

The National Parks Service, which celebrates its 100th anniversary Thursday, was started by Congress and President Woodrow Wilson to preserve natural, historical and cultural landscapes and make them accessible to the public. Today, they oversee more than 400 spaces including 59 national parks.

"This was maybe America's best idea," Obama told National Geographic this summer on a stroll through Yosemite, "the idea that these spaces are sacred. They are for everyone and not just for the few. And that you preserve them for future generations." Check out the president's cool 360 degree tour of Yosemite park here.

More than 305 million people visited national parks last year, an all-time record.

The closest national parks to Houston are the Guadalupe Mountains in West Texas (about a nine-hour drive) and Big Bend along the Rio Grande (eight and a half hours away). But the National Park Service also oversees another dozen sites in Texas, including the San Antonio Missions, the Big Thicket National Preserve in Beaumont, and the Waco Mammoth National Monument.

All of them are free through Sunday, August 28th, in celebration of the Centennial, so get out and "park it" somewhere. After all, these places are there for you and me!

HOUSTON –  Harris County officers raided a drug house Thursday morning and you wouldn’t believe where the home was located — right across a street from a high school!

Harris County Precinct 1 official said Barry Dixon, 37, and Craig Ross, 44, were charged with possession of a controlled substances with intent to deliver after being arrested at a home in the 3900 block of Cortland St. The charges were enhanced due to the raid’s proximity to Booker T. Washington High School. Ross was also charged with a felony possession of a firearm.

A third suspect was taken into custody during the raid but was not charged, officers said.

Investigators said when deputies served a search warrant on the house they found what appeared to be heroin, crack cocaine, meth and codeine.

An investigation of this particular home began about two months ago after Constable Alan Rosen witnessed what appeared to be an illegal drug transaction in front of the house, deputies said. Constable deputies said after they stopped a car for a traffic violation near the drug home, the driver — a nurse — confessed to authorities that she had purchased methamphetamine there.

Precinct 1 installed a hidden video camera nearby that officers said collected evidence for several weeks, including a return visit by the nurse.

Police: Teacher found injured, zip-tied in classroom admits he made up attack story

BOTHELL, Wash. -- A Washington wood shop teacher found zip-tied and injured in his classroom earlier this year now admits he staged the crime scene and made up the story, police said in a news conference.

In May, news of the alleged violent attack shook the residents of Bothell. Concerned Bothell High School students wore blue the following Monday and signed a large banner to show support for the popular teacher, 63-year-old Calvin Pygott.

On Tuesday, however, police revealed Pygott had taken a polygraph test that told a different story, according to KCPQ.

After seeing signs that Pygott was not telling the truth, police said they gave him the opportunity to give another statement and he eventually confessed to making up the story.

Investigators also noted in the news conference that there was no suspect in the surveillance video at the school. There were many inconsistencies in Pygott's story from the beginning of the investigation, they said.

Pygott could now face charges for obstruction and giving false statements.

In May, Pygott was found inside his Bothell High School wood shop classroom after classes with an injury to the back of the head and a zip-tie around his neck.

School was canceled for a day while police investigated and extra security patrolled the school grounds as a precaution.

DURANT, Miss. — Two Catholic nuns were found dead inside their Mississippi home after they didn’t show up to work Thursday, according to police.

Both women had stab wounds, the Durant police chief told WJTV.

The nuns have been identified as Sister Paula Merrill and Sister Margaret Held. Merrill worked with the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth in Kentucky, and Held with the School Sisters of St. Francis in Milwaukee.

“These were the two sweetest sisters you could imagine,” Father Greg Plata told the Clarion-Ledger. “It’s so senseless.”

Authorities believe the women may have been victims of a robbery, according to the paper.

The Sisters of Charity of Nazareth released the following statement:

With great sadness we announce that this afternoon, we were informed that Paula Merrill, SCN, was found dead at her home in Durant, Mississippi. Police found both her and Margaret Held, SSSF, dead this morning after being called by personnel at the medical clinic where they ministered. The two had not come into the clinic this morning.

We have very little information at this time. There is an investigation underway. We have spoken with the parish priest, the chief of police, and the coroner’s office to confirm the deaths of Sisters Paula and Margaret.

As a community we have come together in prayer. SCN President Susan Gatz asks that all, “pray in gratitude for the precious lives of Sisters Paula and Margaret … they served the poor so well. Because we are gospel women, please also pray for the perpetrators.”

Please keep the families and religious communities of Sisters Paula and Margaret in your prayers, as well as those who work at the medical clinic where the Sisters were in ministry and the clinic’s many clients, and those involved in the investigation. Please also keep the community of Durant in prayer as well.

The Sisters of Charity of Nazareth are an international Congregation in a multicultural world. Impelled by the love of Christ, in the tradition of Vincent de Paul and the pioneer spirit of Catherine Spalding, Sisters and Associates are committed to work for justice in solidarity with oppressed peoples, especially the economically poor and women, and to care for the earth. They risk their lives and resources, both personally and corporately, as they engage in diverse ministries in carrying out this mission.

ALBUQUERQUE — A 10-year-old girl was drugged, sexually assaulted and killed Wednesday in what the Albuquerque Police Department called one of the worst cases in the department’s history, according to a report.

Police have arrested three people in the case: Michelle Martens, 35, the victim’s mother; 31-year-old Fabian Gonzales, the mother’s boyfriend; and his cousin, 31-year-old Jessica Kelley.

Martens and Gonzales allegedly confessed to injecting the 10-year-old daughter with meth “to make her calm down so they could do what they wanted with the little girl,” police said, according to Albuquerque television station KOAT.

The child was allegedly sexually assaulted by Gonzales and Kelley before she was stabbed and strangled, KOAT reported.

Her mutilated body was found wrapped in a blanket at an apartment complex. Police have not identified the victim.

“What happened to this little girl is … horrific. It’s one of the worst things I’ve read in my entire life,” police spokesman Tanner Tixier said at a Wednesday night briefing on the case.

Martens appeared to not show any remorse with police detectives, according to Tixier.

The girl had just turned 10 the day before she was killed, and her friends told KOAT they were supposed to celebrate her birthday.

“I can’t speak to what this mother was planning for her child other than the horrific events that happened to this child,” Tixier said. “I would find it hard to believe that she was planning a birthday party for this child.”

Kelley has refused to speak to investigator thus far, the station reported. Court records obtained by KOAT showed she had a lengthy criminal record that included battery, DWI, assaulting a police officer and shoplifting.

Gonzales and Kelly faced several charges, including criminal sexual penetration of a minor and child abuse resulting in great bodily harm or death, according to the TV station. Gonzales also faces a charge of kidnapping, as does Martens.

“This is a horrific tragedy for our community,” Albuquerque Police Chief Gordon Eden said at a news conference on Wednesday. “When something like this happens to our community, it has an effect on each and every one of us.”

HOUSTON — Betirri Bengtson is a visual artist from Mexico, and has lived in Houston for 18 years. Bengtson went to school in H-town for architecture and painting, and has focused solely on his passion for painting in the last four years. His forte? Soccer. He paints players, sort of. His real focus is on the essence of the sport, so there’s no need for bodies in his artwork. It’s worth a watch, and keep an eye out for his mural of four soccer legends — right here in the Bayou City!

‘The Lord was helping’: ‘Ghostly figure’ appears in photo of Idaho fire that narrowly missed cabin

BONE, Idaho — Jeanette Empey has titled the photo “The Fireman’s Guardian.” If you take a close look, you’ll see why.

Empey’s husband, Bruce, took the picture on their ranch in Bone on Tuesday as the Henry’s Creek fire nearly destroyed their property.

“My husband and son went up to the ranch Monday night after learning the fire had jumped the Bone Road and was heading toward our place,” Empey tells EastIdahoNews.com. “Firemen showed up and told my husband the cabins were going to be a loss and for safety reasons, he should leave.”

Empey says her husband and son went up on a cliff that overlooks the ranch, and “all they could do was watch it burn.”

The following morning, the Empeys returned to see the damage and were shocked to see their cabins still standing.

“The cabins hadn’t burned! They were saved!” Empey says. “But soon the wind returned and the fire flared up again. Then I got a text that said, ‘The fire is 15 feet from the cabin.'”

Empey says she said a prayer and, once again, the fire stayed back, and their cabins were saved.

“This is the little cabin with the metal roof,” Empey wrote on Facebook. (Courtesy: Jeanette Empey)

“There is an oasis in the middle of all this burned land,” Empey says. “To me – that is a miracle.”

Bruce and the Empey’s son remained at the ranch to help distinguish hot spots and to monitor conditions.

At one point on Tuesday, Bruce snapped the photo that appears to show an angel in the midst of flames.

“If you look closely, you can see a ghostly figure floating above the tree,” Empey wrote when she posted the photo on her Facebook page Tuesday evening. Since then, it’s been shared nearly 1,300 times.

Empey says she’s thankful their cabins survived and credits family, friends, firefighters and, yes, angels for protecting them.

“Everything is burned except for around the cabins,” Empey says. “I know the Lord was helping.”

Ryan Lochte charged with falsely filing robbery police report

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL - The Rio 2016 Olympics may be over, but U.S. swimmer Ryan Lochte is not out of deep water just yet.

Since the swimmer's return to America, Rio police have charged him with falsely reporting a crime.

A Brazilian court summoned him to testify about his "robbery" claims that took place August 14.  Lochte and three teammates from the USA swim team are accused of vandalizing a gas station while being intoxicated.

With swimmers recalling different versions of what went down that night, the story quickly turned controversial, making a big splash across international media outlets.

After a public apology and losing endorsement deals, Lochte may be in the fast lane to win outside the pool.  It is unclear yet if he'll take the stand in Rio, but perhaps he'll be busy practicing his moves for "Dancing with the Stars."

USA Today reported that Lochte could be part of the next cast.  Another rumor floating around is that Lochte may have a new endorsement by Pine Brothers, a cough drop brand.

That doesn't sound like a bad deal, since he might just need a cough drop to clear his throat if he testifies.

SURREY, British Columbia – A photo posted online showing an elderly couple holding hands and crying has been shared thousands of times on Facebook.

The reason is more heart-wrenching than the picture.

Wolf and Anita Gottschalk of Surrey, B.C, have been married for 62 years. But they were admitted into separate nursing homes and, for the last eight months, have been forced to live apart.

Every other day, a member of their family, usually their granddaughter Ashley Bartyik, drives the 40 minutes so they can see each other. Every time it’s time to say goodbye, there are tears.

“It’s an emotional outburst from both of them,” Bartyik told CNN.

Bartyik, 29, cares for the Gottschalks full time. She posted a picture of the distressing routine on Facebook hoping to attract the attention of her local community. But the post has been shared thousands of times and has gained international attention.

Gottschalk was placed into Yale Road Centre in January after suffering from congestive heart failure. His wife, Anita, 81, lives in a home 40 minutes away. Since then, Bartyik says, “it’s been a waiting game to get him placed.” They are pleading with healthcare authority Frasure Health to reunite the couple.

“We want justice for my grandparents who after 62 years together deserve to spend their last moments in the same building,” her post reads.

Wolf Gottschalk, 83, suffers from dementia and was also diagnosed with lymphoma this week. Though the memory of his wife has not faded, Ashley is afraid it eventually will.

“The time is ticking now more than ever before,” she told CNN.

“This is a heartbreaking situation for the family, and it’s quite upsetting for us as well,” a spokeswoman for Frasure said, “We are committed to reuniting the couple and we hope to do so within the next few weeks.”

Gosh, we hope so.

The story of the couple was first reported by CNN affiliate CTV.

After partner dies on trail, woman survives month alone

A bizarre story of survival out of New Zealand: Authorities say a woman survived for a month in a remote cabin after her partner was killed during a wintry hike in the mountains, reports the Guardian.

Police say the Czech couple, in their late 20s or early 30s, began hiking the Routeburn Track, which takes up to four days to complete, on July 24 but soon became disorientated in the snow and freezing weather.

The woman told police through a translator that her partner fell from a slope two days later, and while she was able to reach him, he died shortly after, reports stuff.co.nz.

She says she made it back to a camping station four days later near Lake Mackenzie and broke into the warden’s cabin, where she looted food and supplies, and made a large H in the snow with ashes from a fire.

The woman says she feared trying to hike out from there given the heavy snow and her own debilitated condition. Help took a while to arrive, however: The couple hadn’t registered their hike, so authorities had no clue they were missing.

Finally, worried family members back home began posting on social media, and word circulated to the Czech consulate in New Zealand. A search party found their car and then the woman, about four weeks after the hike began.

A local police inspector says it’s “highly unusual” that she went undetected for so long, even though it’s winter. “If no one’s been in there because of the snow, I can see how it could happen,” says the president of a local hiking group.

She is recuperating, and authorities are planning to retrieve her partner’s body. (A lost dad and his three kids made it to safety after two nights in the wilderness.)

Facebook decides your political affiliation for you

MENLO PARK, CA — Are you unsure which way you're gonna vote in November? Facebook's not!

They have assigned you a political label based on what you read, post and like. And it's not that hard to find. Type in facebook.com/ads/preferences. Then click on "Lifestyle and culture" and "U.S. Politics."

If you watch "Scandal," "Ab Fab" and like posts about how dumb Trump supporters are, you've probably been labeled a "Liberal."

Like a story about the Donald dogging Hillary, and expect to be labeled "Conservative." Houstonian Nic Nicola says he's not surprised, "That's what people like to do nowadays. They like to put labels and brands on people."

What's it matter? Well, Facebook then shows you just the stories and ads closely related to those political views. Kinda scary, considering a Pew study this year revealed 44 percent of us read or watch news on Facebook.

"I don't agree with what their doing, student Sheila Talley of Houston Community College said, "I don't think they should decide what type of information you should get."

Mariel Hernandez sees this as a slippery slope.

"You're just gonna get the options that they think you're gonna like best," she said. "What if you change your mind?"

Trump's campaign has actually bought ads on Facebook just targeting moderates, according to the New York Times. You can bet Team Hillary has done the same.

"I think it's kind of creepy, but politically, I think it's a very smart move," nursing student Yimika Osinulu said.

"If I'm seeing anything on social media, yes, I'm probably gonna read it, but I'm not gonna believe (all of it),"  Owais Khan said.

He said he doesn't rely on Facebook for his news,  but add, "I'm probably gonna research whether it's truth or not."

One former Facebook product manager said executives there joked about their political influence, saying they could send reminders to go vote to certain people and not others.

"That makes me feel like I'm their little project," Osinulu said. "So that my thought process can be how they want it and I don't like it."

We've said it before, folks, Big Brother's watching, and here's proof he's feeding you exactly what he wants you to think.

Give the guy a break!

The “It’s Going Down” rapper took to Instagram to explain his reasoning for the new hairdo. (Disclaimer: Video contains harsh language unsuitable for children.)

HOUSTON — Everyone get into the bunker — Facebook was down for more than 10 minutes!

Multiple tech websites confirmed that the world’s largest social media platform was indeed down. The drop happened as of 6:04 p.m. but the platform was backup at 6:15 p.m.

And while no one is able to talk about this on Facebook, Twitter is going above and beyond with memes as hundreds of users post snapshots of the site’s error message.

And then there was also plenty of this:

The short-term outage had people temporarily “freaking out,” but we hope not as much as the family who lost the internet in the hilarious A T & T commercials.

Stay tuned, here. Obviously, not on Facebook.

HOUSTON - "I wish it would have been Stacey Dash on the ground, instead of Michael Brown...but with additional round."

Who could forget that line from Houston superstar rapper Willie D's controversial video-- "Coon?"

"I ain't never apologizing for that song," Willie said in a podcast last April. "I said it, and I meant it. And a fight go with it."

Well, there's more where that came from....because Willie D is rolling out "Coon II!"

Fans gathered for a special video premiere party in H-Town, and the man of the hour talked exclusively with Newsfix about his new sequel video.

"When I've got something to say, I say it, man. I don't even care who I offend," Willie told us. "You know, as long as I'm standing on truth, I'm not really concerned about who I offend."

"I'm hunting coons-- and you should, too!" Willie says in Coon II.

In the new video, the Geto Boys rapper takes aim at several high-profile celebs once again, including NBA legend Michael Jordan....for what Willie D says is "selling out."

"The Black community is not for sale," Willie insisted. "You know, you can't come into the Black community and drop a few dollars and think you're gonna get a pass for basically disrespecting us."

Another local legend-- Lil' Troy-- was also on-hand to give Willie some extra props. "...Been in the industry for a long, long time...he steadily stays relevant to the game," Lil' Troy shared. "That's the name of the game....stay relevant!"

"Help me get out there and capture these coons!" Willie pleaded. "Let's put an end to 'Coonism!"'

Another memorable line in the new song: "If you see a coon, say something!"

Leave it to Willie D to stir things up and make some waves!

URUMQI, China - Here's a dog-gone update: Remember the story earlier this month about the little stray dog named "Gobi" who became a social media sensation after following marathon runner Dion Leonard across the Gobi Desert in China?

Well, the story has another twist after taking a turn for the worst.

Gobi disappeared!

Running away from her temporary home in Urumqi.

As soon as Leonard heard the heartbreaking news back in Scotland, he jumped on a plane and returned to China to help try to find her!

Urumqi is a huge city of several million people and Leonard spent days with volunteers searching the streets for his best friend.

"You start to think to yourself, 'wow, this is really a needle in a haystack times ten,'" the Leonard said.

But then a phone call came about a dog found that looked like Gobi.

When Leonard went to investigate, he got a surprise!

"She literally ran up my legs — she's squealing and yelping — and she was just delighted to see me," Leonard recalled. "That was probably one of the best days of my life last night when I walked through that door."

The two BFFs have been inseparable since reuniting.

Although Gobi appears to be okay, she still has to remain in quarantine for 120 days before she can join her new family in Scotland at Christmas. Leonard said plans to fly back for visits.

"It was always a long shot,  it was always going to be a miracle and I just can't believe myself that it's happened," he said.

Now that's a tail-waggin' happy ending for the second time around.

HOUSTON — National Dog Day could be the start of a whole new dating world for the fellas out there! For the guys that need help getting a lady, the first place to go might be an animal adoption center. Women are estimated to be about 20 percent more attracted to men who have a dog, according to information gathered by Match.com.

"A male dog owner can trigger a primal instinct in a woman-her drive to find a partner who can help her rear her precious young," said Dr. Helen Fisher, a biological anthropologist. "Owning a dog is a classic example of male parental advertising-a vital signal men send to women."
