BAGHDAD, IRAQ – A deadly day in and around Iraq’s capital city. At least 50 people are dead while countless others are hurt after a series of attacks, mostly through Shiite neighborhoods in Baghdad.
17 car bombs, seven roadside bombs, and two shootings. Think about those numbers for a second. What’s worse, this is the second attack of its kind to hit Baghdad in less than a week.
No one has claimed responsibility for the attacks. So not only are they murderers, they’re cowards too.
To be on the safe side, officials postponed two elections in nearby provinces.
All this, on the ten-year anniversary of the US-led invasion of Iraq. Sadly, it probably isn’t a coincidence. Officials say they see an uptick in violence this time every year.
