Sunday’s Daytona 500 race in Florida went on as planned, despite a crash at the speedway that injured more than 2 dozen spectators on Saturday.

The crash happened on the final curve of the Nationwide 300 Series race.

The cars, which were traveling up to 175 miles per hour, got tangled up in the curve.  Pieces of the cars that wrecked flew into a fence that separated the fans from the track.

“From an operations perspective, at 8 am we met with NASCAR. We reviewed all of the repairs that we made last evening. We worked late into the evening and are prepared to go racing today.” said Joie Chitwood III, President of the Daytona International Speedway.
