BRYAN, TX – A town mourns as the smoke clears from a deadly weekend blaze in Bryan.
Two firefighters died in the line of duty, while another two were injured, after an unoccupied Knights of Columbus building caught fire Friday night.
Fire officials say the roof caved in during the blaze, while the firefighters were still inside. A team of firefighters tried to rescue their own, but sadly, it was too late.
36-year-old Lieutenant Eric Wallace died at the scene, while 54-year-old Lieutenant Gregory Pickard later succumbed to his injuries.
It was a different story for Ricky Mantey, Jr. and Mitchel Moran. These two firefighters remain in serious by stable condition at UTMB in Galveston, where they could be recovering from their burns for over a month.
Wallace’s funeral will be held Thursday morning in Bryan, while services are pending for Pickard.
How it all happened? We might not know for months.
