MIDWEST – A severe storm in the central and southern states has caused several tornadoes and killed at least 18 people.
Some of the worst damage came north of Little Rock, Arkansas, in the towns of Mayflower and nearby Vilonia.
16 people have been reported dead in those areas.
The Arkansas tornado was one of several that touched down Sunday as a large storm system moved through parts of the plains, Midwest and south.
Less than two hours before the Arkansas tornado struck, a twister hit the small northeastern Oklahoma community of Quapaw, killing at least two people and injuring six others
The storms also heavily damaged parts of Cherokee County, Kansas, just across the state line from Joplin, Missouri.
Tornadoes also touched down in Nebraska, Iowa and Missouri.
Ironically, Sunday was the third anniversary of a 122-tornado day, which struck parts of Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee, Virginia and Georgia and killed 316 people.
