CORRIGAN, TX - In Corrigan, about an hour and a half north of Houston, an explosion at the Georgia Pacific plywood plant sent nine to the hospital. Unsure of why the fire started, Corrigan Fire Chief John Walter Cobb is pretty sure it was dust that caught on fire.
Five victims were taken by Life Flight helicpoter to the hospital, four others were taken by ambulance. Several of the victims have severe burns. Firefighters fought back the blaze in about an hour’s time.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) will investigate the cause of the explosion.
