GUANTANAMO BAY, CUBA – Chili peppers are known to torture the taste buds, but can they torment the ears as well? According to the CIA, and if we’re talking about the punk, funk, rock band the Red Hot Chili Peppers, then yes they can! In a newly declassified report, Guantanamo Bay interrogators used the Chili Peppers to torture detainees.

Flea and his buddies were played over, and over again on a loop in hopes that the alleged terror suspects being held would go loopy and spill their secrets. The report says music from the Peppers tormented detainees from May to July 2002, but didn’t reveal what songs were used.

This isn’t the first time we hear that music was used to make someone mad. Everything from children’s songs to heavy metal band Metallica has been used. Yes even sweet, cuddly Elmo could be a Gitmo residents worst nightmare! So add one more music group to the list of past CIA torture devices, the Red Hot Chili Peppers. But isn’t the “cruel and unusual” factor one of the main reasons we like punk rock in the first place?
