HOUSTON, TX – H-Town is moving on up.

“We jumped from 25 to #12 and we’re really pleased with that,” says Greg Ortale, President & CEO of the Greater Houston Convention and Visitors Bureau.

He should be happy. Trip Advisor says Houston is the 12th best travel destination in the U.S.

The list is compiled by Travel Advisor Travel Choice and is based on customer ratings and reviews over the past year. Number 12 is pretty fantastic when you consider Houston beat out beautiful Miami (#25) and historic Boston (#14).

“It”s a matter of being out there promoting leisure tourism in the region and making sure that people are aware of who we are,” explains Ortale.

He points out, it also helps that we have great museums, restaurants, shopping and a few other unique attractions like the Funeral Museum out on Kuykendahl, the Orange House, the Beer Can Collection, and the Art Car Parade. These are things that people want to come and to experience.

Here are the cities that bested The Bayou City:

  1. New York City
  2. Chicago
  3. San Francisco
  4. Las Vegas
  5. New Orleans
  6. Los Angeles
  7. San Diego
  8. Seattle
  9. Washington, D.C.
  10. Orlando
  11. Honolulu

Other Texas cities on the list San Antonio #16 and Austin at #18. If you’re surprised Dallas isn’t on the list — well, you must be new to the state.
