WILMINGTON, DE – Robert Richards the fourth, the great grandson of chemical baron Irenee Du Pont, was charged with raping his three year old daughter in 2009.
Richards hired one of the best lawyers in Delaware and was offered a pretty nifty plea deal: admit to one count of fourth degree rape – a lesser charge – and accept the sentence offered.
And boy was this a deal.
Judge Jan Jurden’s sentence: probation, because she said she was worried Richards wouldn’t “fare well in prison.”
Details of the case are only coming out now because of a lawsuit filed by Richards’ ex-wife, and in the same lawsuit, she now says he sexually assaulted their son.
With all the recent outpouring of outrage, maybe this time he’ll do time.
