HOUSTON, TX – Texas takes first place! This time, not a huge honor. The state has the most insurance claims for water damage in homes.
“State farm received a total of 21,700 claims in Texas alone. Leading many other states in the Country,” said State Farm agent Rosie Cisneros.
Now, we’re not talking about flooding due to hurricanes or storms.
According to Cisneors, “Busted pipes, commode overflows, dishwashers that leak. Any kind of appliance that you have at home that has water hoses.”
Totalling $137 million for the Lone Star State alone.
The folks at ARS get calls regularly.
“Probably 2 to 3 a day, pipes breaking in the attics,” according to Brian McMasters, Production Supervisor with ARS.
Chemicals in the water and normal wear and tear are the main culprits for damaged pipes and appliances. But what can home owners do to prevent costly water damage repairs?
“We want to get those pipes from the 80′s and over, you want to get rid of those. Even our copper pipes, the chemicals in the water will start to eat copper pipes that are in the attic,” said McMasters.
Yah, as Texans, we like to be number one, but this is one claim to fame we can live without.
