PIMA COUNTY, AZ – A former U.S. soldier convicted of murdering an Iraqi family has died, two days after a suicide attempt.
Steven Green was found unresponsive in his Arizona prison cell and pronounced dead two days later.
According to the Pima County Medical Examiner, the cause of death was suicide by hanging.
Back in 2009, Green was found guilty in U.S. District Court in Kentucky of raping a 14-year-old Iraqi girl and murdering her, her parents and 6-year-old sister in a small town about 20 miles south of Baghdad.
Those crimes occurred three years before the conviction.
Green was sentenced to multiple life sentences without possibility of parole. Now, although Green is gone, it’s no doubt his heinous crimes will haunt the victims’ relatives forever.
