HOUSTON, TX - It was the strongest storm to ever make landfall, and after Typhoon Haiyan hit the Philippines last November millions of people were left homeless.
More than 6,000 people lost their lives and nearly 1,800 remain missing.
A devastating event that affected not only those who lived through it, but also those who rushed to help.
David Dunn, the executive director for the American Red Cross in Galveston, was one of those.
He is now back in the Bayou city after spending months helping the Philippine Red Cross distribute supplies to the hardest-hit areas, and says the devastation was much worse than what was captured in pictures.
Dunn was one of many who gave of their time to help those in need, but he emphasizes that the recovery effort is far from over.
“While I’m going to be coming home to a very normal environment, they’re still gonna be faced with the challenges of no power and their needs are going to be great for a long, long time.” said Dunn.
Typhoon Haiyan may have left behind a path of destruction but with a little help from guys like Dunn, these people who have suffered so much are now on the path toward recovery.
