WASHINGTON D.C. – You could say President Obama is snubbing President Putin and jabbing at his ban on gay propaganda, by skipping the Sochi games and sending two openly gay athletes in the U.S. delegation.

Tennis great Billie Jean King will attend the opening ceremony and hockey star Caitlin Cahow will be at the closing ceremony. They are both openly gay.

The first lady, vice president and other top level U.S. officials are also skipping the opening ceremonies. The main issue comes down to Putin’s persecution of gay rights, including a law that bans the adoption of Russian-born children to gay couples, and new limitations on public discussion of gay rights.
