HOUSTON, TX – Thanksgiving and Hanukkah, this year they land at the same time; that hasn’t happened since 1888. Mash em’ together and you got Thanksgivukkah. You won’t see that again in our lifetime. Though, you might be surprised to know that both holidays celebrate giving thanks.
Rabbi Mendy Traxler with Chabad Outreach explained, “The whole idea of Hanukkah is giving thanks to God for the miracles that happened and everyday should be Thanksgiving too because we do have so much to be thankful for.”
And who would know more about the Thanksgiving feast than Kenny and Ziggy’s, they serve up turkey and fixin’s 365 days a year.
Ziggy Gruber of Kenny and Ziggy’s Deli, shared, “It’s hard enough when we do one holiday, but to do two holidays… oy vey zmir. This is really a big dilemma.”
A lot to serve up on one plate.
Gruber said, “It’s got potato pancakes, kasha varnishkas, and the turkey, of course with challah stuffing.”
So you see, the holiday mash-up is a good thing!
But lets not forget to light the Menurkey. Yes you heard right; a turkey menorah.
10-year-old Asher Weintraub came up with the idea for this menorah and turkey combo, and it’s selling like potato hotcakes.
Let’s just be thankful it’s not a tofurkey.
