HOUSTON, TX – Without a doubt, somebody is going to eat like a king today, or a queen for that matter. The Muslim community in Houston and around the world is celebrating Eid-ul-fitr, to mark the end of Ramadan.
“In the month of Ramadan we fast during the sun-light hours,’ says Hashim Badat, President of the Islamic Society of Greater Houston. ‘Muslims are forbidden to eat and drink.”
Around 25,000 attendees came to Reliant Center to pray and to break the month-long fast.
“We’ll go home and have the whole families together, exchange gifts, and then visit elders and sick people,” added Badat.
There are over 100,000 Muslims and 13 mosques in Houston. The Bayou City has the 9th largest Muslim population in America.
“You’ll see very diverse people here, we also have some dignitaries from the city.”
