HOUSTON, TX – The original space shuttle has landed right here in Space Center Houston for good. Well, sort of.
We’re talking about the one and only 1967 Star Trek’s Galileo Shuttlecraft, the fictional spaceship that inspired the shuttle program and toys, of course.
“Today is a great day for all of us,’ says Richard Allen, President and CEO of Space Center Houston. ‘We’re just honored to have received Galileo.”
An intergalactic delegation came to the Bayou City for this memorable geek event, including Don Marshal, who appeared in the Galileo Seven episode as Lt. Boma; Robert Picardo, who played The Doctor on Star Trek: Voyager and Gil Gerard, best known as Captain William “Buck” Rogers, but who also played a Starfleet admiral in Star Trek Phase II.
The Galileo Shuttlecraft was long forgotten and in bad shape until Adam Schneider, a Star Trek collector, decided to bring it back to the present. Crowds of Star Wars and Star Trek fans were all over the Space Center Houston. It’s amazing: science fiction will always bring people together, no matter what kind of monsters they follow.
We’re happy to have Galileo home. Fantasy will always be the first step on the road to innovation. Live long and prosper!
