CARSON CITY, NV – The State of Nevada granted OJ Simpson a parole on some of his kidnapping and armed robbery convictions from when he held up a couple of sports memorabilia dealers in a Las Vegas hotel in 2007.
Simpson’s parole takes effect October 2, but he’ll stay in prison to serve the minimum term on four of his weapons convictions. Those sentences will run consecutively, one after the other.
After that, Simpson will start serving two consecutive terms for assault with a deadly weapon.
Simpson told the parole panel last week that he is sorry for what he did, and that he has tried to be a model prisoner.
Simpon’s current lawyers say his trial attorney had a conflict of interest and botched the defense. The judge could agree, and then prosecutors will have to decide whether to re-try him or let him walk.
And walking away from criminal charges is nothing new for Simpson. In 1994, a Los Angeles jury said he didn’t kill his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ronald Goldman.
So, when OJ gets out, does this mean he’ll make good on his promise to find their real killers?
