HOUSTON — A hot new series is landing a jab in Houston's reality television world.
Coming into its third season, "Knockout" follows the journey of real boxers as they're mentored by some of history's most notable trainers. The show's producers plan to shoot in the Third Ward at the legendary gym ran by the Progressive Amateur Boxing Association — commonly referred to as PABA.
"Houston is great," executive producer Steven Marcano said. "You have young up-and-comers, a rich boxing history with everybody from Foreman to Ali, (who) trained here and said so many incredible things about Texas."
In his life time, Muhammad Ali fought inside the Astrodome a total four times including matches against Cleveland Williams in 1966, Ernie Turrell in 1967 and both Jimmy Ellis and Buster Mathis in 1971.
Former heavyweight champion Shannon Briggs is traveling with Marcano promoting the show.
"I love it, its great," Briggs said. "Great people. Great food. How could I not want to be here?"
